CARE FROM THE SMALLEST THINGS

CARE FROM THE SMALLEST THINGS

– The story of a man in the middle of a busy city –

In the midst of increasingly hectic urban life, sometimes we don’t have time to sit down and have a proper meal, let alone take care of ourselves properly. Yet… everyone thinks “it’s okay, it will be different in a few years”, until the body speaks up.

The story below is a true story, about a man I know. His name is Minh – 38 years old, an interior design engineer in Saigon. Born and raised in a peaceful countryside in the Central region, he went to the city to study and then stayed to start a career. His family still lives in the countryside, surrounded by friends, colleagues, and a full range of social relationships. He is considered a responsible person, devoted to his work.

And that’s true. He spent almost all his time on work – from drawing up drawings, supervising construction works, meeting partners… Every day was busy from morning to night. Breakfast was sometimes just a loaf of bread on the way to work, a quick lunch at a restaurant near the construction site, and dinner… depended, usually a drinking session with partners or friends.

This continued for several years. He thought: “You’re still young, work first and rest later.” But life doesn’t always go as planned.

At the age of 37, he discovered that he had severe fatty liver disease, accompanied by digestive disorders and high liver enzymes. The doctor said bluntly: “If you don’t adjust your lifestyle, don’t expect to be healthy for a long time.” The cause? Very obvious – fast food, constant drinking, lack of exercise and irregular sleep.

The news was like a slap in the face. He began to panic. But after a few days of self-torment, he decided to change – not for anyone, but for himself.
Minh reduced his workload. He got up early every day to jog lightly, then prepared a simple but complete breakfast by himself – oatmeal, nut milk, fruit. He limited alcohol as much as possible, instead of refusing to meet partners, he chose to drink fruit juice or tea, and was not afraid to say no politely.

Small but steady changes. During that time, he met a girl – gentle, good at listening and very patient. She did not force him to change but silently accompanied him, cooked together, exercised together, went to the market to choose clean vegetables, read books and drank tea together.

After more than a year of perseverance, the result was something that surprised him – he was completely cured, no longer needed to take medicine. His body was light, his mind was clear, and especially the smile had returned to that once very tired face.

Taking care of your health is not a big deal, it starts with the little things – a decent breakfast, a leisurely walk, a glass of juice instead of a can of beer. Don’t wait until your body speaks up to start looking back.
Choosing to live a healthy life is not just to avoid illness, but to love yourself. Listen to your body – and love it, little by little. Because taking care of the smallest things is the most sustainable way to live healthy – from the inside out.
